Mona and Des have been married 56 years. As she's gotten older, Mona's sight has worsened to the point that she can no longer apply her own makeup. Her hands shake so that she cannot hold the brushes. But her husband, 84 year old Des, has come to the rescue. He has taken up makeup classes so that Mona can still look and feel her best. "It's very relaxing," Mona says as her husband brushes makeup on.
It all began with Mona's birthday party. She wanted to get her makeup done to look her best so they went to Rosie, a makeup artist. Rosie says that Des took the brushes from her because he wanted to have a try. She says "the way he holds the brushes...he's a natural."
Des and Mona's love story came to the attention of Mario Dedivanovic, Kim Kardashian's makeup artist. Mario invited them to The Master Class in London, a world renowned makeup demonstration by Mario. "He just seemed to want to know us; he seemed to want to have us there," says Mona. Mona didn't realize that Mario was such a big deal because Mario and the Kardashians meant "absolutely nothing" in their lives "up until now."
Des laughs and says "there's no way I want my lovely slapped up in stuff."
"He thinks I'm lovely as I am," Mona smiles.
Des smiles and holds her hand.
